2022 Love your Eyes Fundraising Dinner
Love your Eyes fundraising dinner celebrates 2022 World Sight Day, an international day of awareness focusing on the global issue of eye health.
This event coincided with World Sight Day, an international event that focuses the world’s attention on the importance of good eye health and vision care, an International Day of Awareness held annually.
Our Master of Ceremonies Rachael Tiernan injected her enthusiasm into the room to collectively get behind the Love Your Eyes theme, (including the fashionable LYE glasses) and the significance of the evening.
Professor Christopher Layton (Dr Chris) established the Layton Vision Foundation (LVF) in 2016, a profit for purpose eye research charity based in Brisbane, dedicated to eradicating curable and incurable blindness in Australia, Oceania and South East Asia. Since 2016, LVF has promoted and assisted in the eradication of blindness through vision research and clinical services.
In his address to the audience, Dr Chris spoke about the significance of World Sight Day – an opportunity to focus the world’s attention on the importance of eye health for everyone, everywhere. To “Love Your Eyes”.
Dr Chris said “Irreversible blindness is a tragic and feared outcome of many eye diseases. Eye health impacts education, employment, quality of life, and many other sustainable development goals Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can change lives.”
“Our Brisbane vision research is focused on single treatment cures suitable for low-resource settings. We aim to create interventions that can treat a family, a village or an entire nation.”
Later in the program during the fireside chat we heard the heart-felt conversations with Kelly Brinckman, member of the community, along with Dr Chris and scientific fellow Brenda Castro.
Dr Greg “Elvis” Dower and The Blue Cats kept us entertained and dancing the night away to the timeless music of the bygone 50s and 60s.
Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can change lives. By donating to Layton Vision Foundation, you can make a significant difference in vision research and clinical services.
